MESSAGE FROM

Richie Stephens
Promoter and Producer

Four years ago when I started Take Me Away, I never thought it would garner the success it already has. It all started when I did the song, “Take Me Away” and it became a hit; people would then see me and say they yearned for a show that is different, where they would hear songs like “Take Me Away”. It therefore became a necessary step to do a show like Take Me Away which offers superior performances. With the love and support I have received from patrons, I haven’t regretted a moment!

It would be untrue to say Take Me Away only offers excellent entertainment, more importantly it offers, ‘entertainment with a purpose’. Over the years, we have donated to a number of charities including, the Russia Basic School in Sav-La-Mar, the Godfrey Stewart High School (my Alma Mater), the Bustamante Children’s Hospital, the Denham Town Golden Age Home as well as this year’s prospective charity: the Mary’s Child Center, in downtown, Kingston, which accommodates abused pregnant teenage girls.

It’s as a result of this and my 25 years of community work, that I decided to start the Richie Stephens Foundation. The Foundation has as its trustees: Newton James, the Managing Director of Independent Radio Company Limited; Mr. Don Anderson, Pollster and 1st vice president of the Jamaica Olympic Association; Mr. Walter Elmore, producer of the Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival; Bernadette Stephenson and yours truly. With this Foundation, we will be better able to reach far more people in need.

With that said, this year’s staging of Take Me Away promises to feature even more stellar performances. In addition, we are happy to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors throughout the years. A special thanks to the Jamaica National Building Society who is this year’s title sponsor. I am sure they will help to take the show to another level!

Thank you for your support.
Richie Stephens.
